legislative body is that his support is lost when a bill
in which the Executive Council has concurred is introduced
into the Legislative Council. Should this disadvantage
result in practical inconvenience Sir Paul is prepared
at any time to resign his seat on being asked by me to do
so. In the meantime I should continue to have the great
advantage of the advice and assistance which his long con-
-nection with and important interests in the Colony render
of special value while his loyal support of the Government
in the past would be fittingly recognised by his wishes
being met in this matter of retaining his seat on the
higher Council.
